WHAT TO EXPECT AT YOUR REIKI SESSION

HERE’S WHAT A TYPICAL REIKI SESSION WITH ME IS LIKE:

·        At your first Reiki session you will fill out a short intake form and together we’ll briefly discuss any specific concerns or areas you’d like to address in your session. People come to me seeking Reiki treatments for many different reasons—ranging from general wellness, anxiety relief, emotional wellbeing, clearing out stress and energetic blockages, even physical ailments such as insomnia, migraines, digestive issues, pain/inflammation, etc. Before the session, some clients find it helpful to set an intention for the session, which can serve as a guiding mantra to focus the treatment.

·        Before we begin treatment, you’ll take off your shoes and lay comfortably on a massage bed, fully clothed, with a pillow (and blanket or bolster if needed). For those who cannot easily lay comfortably, Reiki can also be done in a seated position (or even standing). Like a massage session, there is soothing music and dim light in the room. You’ll close your eyes to settle in, and I’ll guide you through some relaxing deep breaths and a short guided visualization to help your nervous system slow down. You are safely and gently welcomed to enter a deep relaxed state, letting go of tension & worries… some clients even fall asleep during a session.

·        The Reiki treatment itself usually lasts about 45 minutes or so. Reiki is typically a hands-on technique, however it can be just as effective when done “hands-off”, with the practitioner hovering their hands just a few inches from the body. I typically do a combination of both techniques, if permitted by the client. For clients who are comfortable with a gentle touch, you may feel my hands placed very lightly at certain locations of your body, such as the top and sides of your head, shoulders, abdomen, knees, etc. These placements are typically on or near the chakra energy centers of the body, but can include other areas in need of healing, or where I may intuitively feel called to work on. For clients who prefer not to be touched, my hands will instead hover an inch or two away from your body. It is important to note: Reiki is just as effective hands-off, as it is hands-on—in fact, it can even be done very effectively from across the room or a remote distance!

·        During your session, you might feel a soothing sensation of warmth as the energy activates an area of the body; some people feel a slight tingling sensation, twitching, or a gentle release of tension; some see auric colors, others have a much more subtle experience but feel the effects later. Some people feel nothing at all during their session, which is also perfectly normal! Everyone is different, every session is unique. The Reiki energy is still working, whether we recognize it at first, or not.

·        After the session, you’ll likely feel a sense of peace & relaxation; relief from physical symptoms might be noticeable right away, or sometimes take a few days to improve. Together we’ll spend a few minutes discussing your experience, what you felt, and anything that may have come up for you that you wish to share. If you’d like feedback from the practitioner, I am happy to share additional insights, observations, and areas that I noticed needed attention during the session. After the session, each first-time client leaves with some self-care reminders to help you smoothly integrate the healing from your session.

·        If at any point after your session, you have questions, concerns, insights, or anything you’d like to share about your results or progression, you are welcome to reach out to me. I always love to hear from clients, and I’m happy to answer questions or offer whatever further assistance I can.
